I am Ana Beatriz, better known as Bia. Motherhood has always been my passion. I was an OB-GYN in Brazil for more than 15 years. Watching the happiness reflected on every mom's face and assisting them during labor was where I found happiness. Five and half years ago, I immigrated to Calgary, Canada, with my husband and kids. When thinking about the next steps of my career, I wanted to do something that would fulfill me again, and that is how Beamommy was born. My background allows me to provide physical and emotional support to the family and remain calm in unexpected situations. My skills also allow me to help with lactation and postnatal care.
I hope I can help you have a beautiful pregnancy, labor, and motherhood journey.
With love,
Bia

A doula is a trained professional who can support the mom and her partner emotionally and physically before, during, and shortly after childbirth. I can guide and answer your questions non-judgmentally, provide scientifically based information, and explain specific procedures.
No. I will not replace your partner. On the contrary, I can support your partner too! We will have two prenatal visits to discuss the differences between the partner and the doula roles. I can also attend if you don't have a partner or family/support person.
This is a personal decision. If you want a natural childbirth, you might try natural pain relief such as massage and breathing exercises. Epidural is an effective way to pain relief, but it increases the risk of assisted birth because you can be unable to feel your contractions and push.
A midwife is a healthcare provider who provides medical care for you during pregnancy, birth, and the immediate postpartum period. She can deliver babies in hospitals, birthing centers, or even your home. A doula does not perform any medical care. She offers you and your family emotional, informational, and physical support and will help you to remain calm and comfortable during labor. A doula will also help you with breastfeeding during the immediate postpartum period.
Alberta Health Service does not cover doula services. But if you have a private insurance plan, the answer is MAYBE! If your health insurance is under a personal/individual or family plan, doula services are NOT covered. However, some insurance companies cover if you have a group plan with your employer. Some only cover if the doula is certified, and others don't specify it. The only way to know that is by contacting your insurance company.
Having Bia as a doula was my best choice from start to finish.
The importance of a doula for me went far beyond emotional support, I had a cesarean section 4 years ago and Bia's experience in the area and all her knowledge, care, and affection with me gave me total confidence to try a normal birth this time. And we did it 💪🏼
I have no words to thank for all the encouragement, help, and tips to alleviate the pain from pregnancy to childbirth, and especially all the care that Bia showed me and my family.
Eternal gratitude!!! I love you, Bia! May God bless you and may you bless even more families with your experience, knowledge, and incredible work 🙏🏼

Bia was very essential for the birth. Our communication began long before the birth itself. For months we were in contact to establish what we wanted for the big day, what I could and couldn't do during the pregnancy, and how I was feeling until the day I gave birth. In the week before the birth we already had signs that it was close and communication intensified. Every day the doula sent us a message to see if we had any sign that she was getting closer. The week of the induction, I also called our doula from the obstetrician's office for assistance. From there we kept in touch and she was the first to arrive when we arrived at the Labor & Delivery room. I asked her everything. What they were putting in me, the machines, what the doctor could see “down there” 🧐. When the contractions started to intensify, tension was essential. She also motivated me to do exercises on the ball and move around to reduce the pain of contractions. She was also the one who held me during the epidural and helped me understand how labor was progressing. At the back of the room, I could also see her explaining everything to my husband, what was happening and how it was progressing. And when the girls came into the world, she was the one who held my leg, and she was also the one who took the photos I have of the birth. Eternal gratitude. ❤️

Bia, you were the most incredible source of support and encouragement throughout my granddaughter’s birth journey. You were with us then when we needed it most and will remain forever in the story of my family!
I cannot measure our gratitude for everything you are and you do. Your patience, strength, understanding, and excellent observation skills were very important to us.
You were such a calming presence with us throughout the entire process, from being pregnant for the time until after the baby was born.
You answered all our questions and concerns, by phone, video chat and even coming to the house when necessary.
One of the very important moments was when we were unsure whether it was time to go to the hospital and you confirmed to us that it was time. If it wasn’t for you, the baby might have been born at home! The hospital was even going to discharge her when you insisted we should stay and the baby was born shortly after.
Another crucial moment was when you helped us get a diagnosis for the baby’s laryngomalacia after listening to the baby’s breathing and immediately pointing out that we needed a specialist.
A million times thank you!! You were always such a healing and helpful presence. You will always hold a special place in our family’s hearts!

Having Bia from Beamommy at the birth of my first granddaughter brought comfort to my heart.
She stayed with my daughter-in-law at home from the moment she started to feel her first contractions, until the moment she went to the maternity ward.
She then accompanied us to the hospital and stayed with us there until 2 hours after the birth.
In addition to being a person who loves what she does, her previous experience in obstetrics gives us a lot of confidence.
Thank you Bia and I hope to count on you in the births of the grandchildren I will still have.

I couldn't help but share my experience, and how blessed I was to have Bia accompanying me throughout the pregnancy. She was with me at every stage, teaching me, reassuring me, and taking care of me, when I was only thinking about the baby.
She went to the appointment with me and advised me on my birth plan, and because of her, even though I had a cesarean, I was able to have my skin-to-skin contact and golden hour.
I felt a lot of back pain at the end of the 3rd trimester and she did TENS which made all the difference and saved me at the end of the pregnancy. I had a cesarean scheduled for May 28th, as I had a precondition and needed to be a cesarean, but in the early hours of the morning I felt some cramps and when I woke up I realized that they were getting stronger and more frequent, that's when I called Bia and she came promptly and followed up. She helped me check the frequency of the contractions and advised me to go to the hospital. As they only allowed her to follow me after the birth when I was back in the room, she followed me on the phone the whole time, talking to my husband and guiding us.
In the hospital, they quickly hospitalized me and performed an emergency cesarean section, as I had gone into labor. Melissa's weight was 3.010g and she was 49.8 cmheigh.
Bia came to check on us, and helped me with breastfeeding, showing me that the colostrum was already coming out, even though I didn't think so. She advised me not to talk too much to avoid gas, every detail made such a difference and contributed to our well-being and recovery.
Bia is an instrument in God's hands to bless mothers living this beautiful dream of pregnancy. My family and I can only be grateful and we ask God to continue to bless Bia and her family and that she continues to be this blessing for the moms-to-be.

As a first-time mom, I had a lot of questions. Despite having lived with several friends with children, my husband had never had much experience with babies. Our questions together ranged from pregnancy-related issues to baby care.
Nowadays, it is normal to search for information on the internet, but there comes a point where we become overwhelmed with information. That's why Bia's presence in our lives was super important. During some moments of uncertainty during pregnancy, she gave us a lot of security and clarity. Even though we were monitored by an obstetrician, creating the birth plan with Bia made a total difference for us. Furthermore, my biggest insecurity was not having the doctor who accompanied us during prenatal consultation at the birth, but knowing that Bia would be there gave us peace and tranquility.
From the moment I started to feel the first contractions and throughout labor, having Bia by our side was synonymous with safety. In some more tense moments, when we didn't understand exactly what was happening, knowing that she was there to explain and calm us down was a relief for our hearts.
I do not doubt that we made the best choice to have a wonderful doula like Bia by our side at such a delicate and important moment for our family.
I'm sure that the birth of my first child wouldn't have been so peaceful and I wouldn't have been so confident in going through all that if Bia hadn't been by our side.
I have no words to thank you and, for the next birth (God willing!), I will make a point of having you with us again.
